Why Amanda Bynes’ Paper Magazine Is So Important To Our Generation

Amanda Bynes’ Paper Magazine is out, with full details on the actress’s life. On the cover, you see her exactly as the editor describes her.  I don’t think anyone saw it coming, and that’s probably why it is so great. “Modeling a pretty beaded and crystal-studded silver top that she designed herself, her long honey blonde hair parted to the side like a ’90s cover girl, while posing serenely as the photographer snaps her picture.”

You continue to read to figure out if this article will be another heart wrenching episode like Bynes Twitter series, or if it will be a victory. But instead of vulgar or scattered sentences, Amanda Bynes’ Paper magazine article goes on to talk about how well she is doing in school, and what classes she loves.

Finally, the article breaks into what put Amanda into a spiral that the entire world witnessed:

But She’s the Man, a modern update on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night that saw Bynes play a teen girl dressing in drag to pose as her brother, led to, in Bynes’ words, “an interesting experience” after it wrapped. “When the movie came out and I saw it,” she says, “I went into a deep depression for 4-6 months because I didn’t like how I looked when I was a boy.” She paused. “I’ve never told anyone that.” Seeing herself with short hair and sideburns was “a super strange and out-of-body experience. It just really put me into a funk.”

And from there, we all know what happens. But what exactly put Amanda into these neurotic behaviors? According to her, it started with marijuana. She says she smoked all the time and every morning. Once she found out about the pill Adderall, things really started getting out of control. During Easy A tapings, she states:

“I literally couldn’t stand my appearance in that movie and I didn’t like my performance. I was absolutely convinced I needed to stop acting after seeing it.” She continues, “I was high on marijuana when I saw that but for some reason it really started to affect me. I don’t know if it was a drug-induced psychosis or what, but it affected my brain in a different way than it affects other people. It absolutely changed my perception of things.”

From here, Amanda got in with the wrong crowd, retired from acting, and got as high as she could. Unfortunately, it was her high leading to her to get on Twitter. While Amanda goes on to touch about her experiences, there is more to the article than just her story.

Amanda got into a deep hole due to drugs affecting her different than other people. As she states, she never did any extremely hard drugs besides cocaine. But that Adderall and marijuana were her choice of high. A mental illness can come at any time, and during this time. It was even more taboo than it is today.

Amanda Bynes’ Paper magazine issue shows that a simple unbalance in your brain can put someone through a lot of things. Something that many go through and ask themselves “why am I feeling like this?” But sadly they don’t turn for help or a understanding of what is actually going on. Mixing a depression with a simple drug as marijuana can make things even worse. While Amanda had support of her family, there are so many people out there that hold this secretly to themselves. And sadly, they take a different route to get out of it.

That being said, the main reason why Amanda Bynes’ Paper magazine  is so important to our generation, is it shows she was resilient. She went through years of depression, trauma, and social embarrassment. She even went through problems with her family and more. And guess what, she came out of it all. In a world today where we have artists like Avicci ending their life because they felt alone through mental illness. Or, Mac Miller whom we have lost through addiction and substance abuse. It gives our generation that there is hope and a hand to get out of it, no matter who you are.

I don’t think anyone who has seen the videos of Amanda Bynes’ strange behavior in retail stores, would assume she’d get back on track. Not alone, be a FIDM student. But this is when we need to take a closer look at major celebrities like her and Britney Spears who have overcome all these hurdles.

Amanda Bynes is a series of comeback. She is someone who has gone through her own mental hell and come back. To me and our generation, that truly shows just how resilient we can be.  And for our generation, that just gives anyone out there who is struggling a little more hope as to what we are seeing on the news these days and across celebrity world. I recommend everyone get a chance to read Amanda Bynes’ Paper magazine issue. Remember, no matter how you’re feeling, we as human beings are truly resilient. We can conquer it all.
