Easy, Breezy, Beautiful … Cover Boy

The beauty and cosmetics industry is mainly targeted towards women, but lately, society is telling us that isn’t true. Cover Girl introduced a new face, James Charles, a 17 year-old from Bethlehem, New York. Not only does he create makeup videos on YouTube and Instagram, but he is also now the face of Cover Girl, showing a step towards equality in the cosmetics industry for men.

Currently pairing with Katy Perry, another face of the brand, James Charles hit the cosmetic industry by storm. His presence in the media is not only important because of his flawless makeup abilities and beautiful face (which DUH, he obviously has both), but also because he stands for something bigger.

He is standing up for changing gender norms our society has socially constructed through time. Charles is a face for Cover Girl and for all men and boys who do not feel as though makeup is “only for girls”. He is a figure of challenging gender norms, the LGBTQ community, and a role model for many in the future.

When the New York Times asked Charles how our country is handling gay rights and gender identity, he responded, “we’ve made so many amazing progressions with gay rights, gender inclusivity and self-expression. But I think we still have so, so much longer to go.”

He is aiding in the social change that our world needs; acceptance and expression. Ladies and gentlemen, James Charles is a face to remember.
