Houghton SS16 RTW: The Most Wearable NYFW Collection

We all know the saying, “good things come to those who wait,” and although we’ve been in the midst of fall for all of 24 hours, it’s springtime in the fashion industry. With the completion of both New York and London Fashion Week, we’ve moved on to Milan and will soon experience the magic that is Paris’ Fashion Week. About a week ago, we were in New York running back and forth between shows and watching designers showcase the clothing we’ll be wearing during next year’s spring and summer seasons.

While white dresses, breezy silhouettes, fringe, and ruffles were seen on a number of runways, we fell in love with Katharine Polk’s “Summer of 69”. Polk, who serves as the designer for Houghton, the “chic, cool-girl” brand, strayed from previous designs, which were more tomboy in nature, and ventured into a more ethereal direction. A native of Malibu, Calif, Polk credits much of her SS16 collection’s inspiration to grainy beach photographs and also played with textures and transparency to create a collection that remains true to her cool and modern aesthetic (hence, the Converse pairing), but most importantly, it’s also wearable.

In the event you missed the magic that was the Houghton show, scroll down to view our favorites from the collection and join us in saving our pennies now, so that when spring 2016 rolls around, we can snag some, if not all, of these pieces for ourselves!
