She first graced the runway of Victoria’s Secret in 2012 and has now received the honor to wear the dazzling $3M Fantasy Bra in the brand’s annual fashion show. With all of the talk around the Paris show we will be glued to our couches for and this fresh face that gets to wear this piece of magic, we wanted to take a deeper diver into who she is and how she got here.
Jasmine Tookes, a 25 year old California native grew up in the world of athletics. She did gymnastics for ten years and was active in volleyball and softball before stopping to focus on modeling at age 15. Her mother, who is a celebrity fashion stylist has aided in her longtime interest in fashion. Having a taste of the industry by being on photoshoots and showroom appointments alongside her mother led her to be discovered by an agent. She was immediately sent to an LA modeling agency and soon booked various lucrative commercial ads such as Abercrombie & Fitch, then Ugg and Gap in 2010. In 2011, the IMG model booked DKNY SS 2011 campaign, followed by a spread in Vogue Italia shot by photographer Ellen Von Unwerth. She also appeared in editorials for Vogue Paris and W Magazine.

By 2012, she was ready to strut on the industry’s finest catwalks. She appeared in SS 2012 collections for Calvin Klein, Jason Wu, Tom Ford, Versace, and Miu Miu in fashion capitals such as Milan, New York and Paris. It was her work in these shows that landed her booking of the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, and she later became an Angel in 2015.
In her Victoria’s Secret introduction interview, she recalls practicing walking for her mother wearing wings, imagining stunning on the runway, à la her idol Tyra Banks. Tookes, standing at 5’9 with a brown-skinned complexion to die for and charming personality, has broken barriers of diversity in the industry. She is the third African-American woman to wear this year’s one-of-a-kind Fantasy Bra preceding inspirations Selita Ebanks and Tyra Banks. “I feel like it’s such a milestone for Victoria’s Secret to have a woman of color wearing the fantasy bra, because there’s only been two in the past,” Tookes told Fashionista in October. “It’s major, and I think it’s awesome I get to represent that.”
Jasmine admits to transforming from her naturally laid back, quiet personality to powerful and confident when she hits the runway. With 1.4M Instagram followers, and named by Style as Top New Model in 2011, she has proven to be one to watch.
