How did anyone get a wedding done before Pinterest, and how did we hint to our significant others what engagement ring we wanted?! Even if you’re straight up single, we’re sure you’ve come across a wedding pin you had to add to your board (gotta be prepared for the future, right?).
But there was one photo that won over every bride-to-be’s heart. An engagement ring that belonged to Sylvia Billone has officially become the most pinned ring of the year. The picture features a rose gold band with a stunning 1.22 karat solitaire diamond. Having the most-wanted ring in the world is a pretty nice way to tell your fiance, “You did good!” Unfortunately, it was custom-made just for her, so the exact ring isn’t available.
How did Sylvia come up with the design? From Pinterest, obvs. She saw similar rings on the app, and wanted one of her very own. She paired it with an Art Deco-inspired wedding band made with smaller diamonds and rose gold, making it for one bride-worthy style.
There’s no word on what the ring cost, but it’s estimated at about $3,800. Something else that might shock you? It’s clearly not the biggest rock that was on Pinterest, yet others can’t get enough (sorry, Kim K!).
“A generation of marital age people are now prioritizing other things such as weddings, housing and the cost of having children, rather than splashing out on a really expensive ring,” said Anusha Couttigane, a senior analyst at Kantar Retail. “There is still a lot of demand for solitaire diamond rings, but there has been growth in non-traditional designs which use a range of cheaper, colored stones too.”
So why the big change? For one, the generation embraces change, loves to show off their individuality and is anything but traditional. They also are used to watching what they spend, and choose to put their money else where, making the “two months pay” rule fly out the door. In fact, Allianz states significant others now spend an average of $616 on the bling so they can focus more on paying off debt, buying a house and spending it on cool vacations.
Have you already pinned the popular ring?!
