RIP Kate Spade; Remembering The Legacy of a Fashion Icon

A day after the CFDA Fashion Awards, the fashion community mourns the tragic death of one of the world’s most recognized designers.

The legendary designer Kate Spade was found dead around 11 A.M. EST in her Upper East Side, New York home of an apparent suicide by hanging, according to NBC. Though the details we’rent immediately clear, a note was found at the scene.

Kate Spade, who was 55, was the pioneer of the first ”it-bag” of the 90’s and has become a household name and prominent figure in the fashion community.

“When we started in the 1990s, ready-to-wear designers weren’t doing bags and accessories. Now, everyone is doing accessories,” Spade told BoF in 2016. “Coming into this, we knew we had to do something very special and we had to love what we make.”

Kate Spade’s love for designing conveyed beautifully in her work. Her use of poppy colors, contemporary yet classic designs made Kate Spade such a feel-good brand and deserving of the cult following it has naturally gained.
