Why Is Monica’s Room Purple On Friends? We Find The Solid Answer

You probably wonder a whole lot while watching the hit show friends, including WT is Monica’s place so purple?

Well, you are not alone. Cosmopolitan dug deep to get the answer to see why her NYC place was so vibrant. Set designer John Shaffner knew right away he wanted it violet, and had no issue fighting people on the color topic.

“Nobody likes change until I painted the little model [apartment] purple,” he explained to Great Big Story.  “Color is really important in establishing the show identity. When you switch to Friends, you see that it is purple and you stay tuned.”

We can’t really say we stayed to watch the show because it’s a purple room, but who are we to say that it didn’t subconsciously have a huge role in not touching the remote.

The designer also explained why he didn’t want to ever open the door everyone was dying to know about, which later revealed Monica was filthy AF.

“One of the responsibilities of a production designer is to look into the future. If you can, anyway. We put a door all the way up this hallway and we really didn’t say where it went to. I said, ‘Why don’t we just wait and see where the story is taken?'”

And there you have it! Now if we could only know how the hell she afforded it …
